It is an approach of education that emphasizes understanding of the students. To make sure that students are able to understand the content delivered to them, this approach works on reverse engineering or backward designing. Outcomes are first identified and then the curriculum is prepared keeping in mind the level of understanding of the students. Because of this approach, learning becomes very interesting and engaging for the students. As the curriculum is prepared keeping in mind students’ abilities, this approach is considered as student centric. It also encourages the motivational levels of teachers and helps in making them more responsible.
Spaced learning This is a novel approach to education where the content is delivered thrice to the students in the class. Two breaks of 10 minutes each are given to students where they can indulge in sporting or other physical activities. The results obtained from this approach to education have been very encouraging and students have reported much higher retention of the content that is delivered to them. Spaced learning has proved to be far more effective than the conventional approach where lessons are taught without any interval or break for 3-4 hours.
Engagement with the real world This is a novel approach to education that focuses upon engagement with the real world. This approach to learning has been tried mostly in business schools where fundamentals are taught but students are encouraged to increase their engagement with the real world. Spending time with businesses and companies working in social spheres helps in making the concepts taught in the school clearer to the students.
Flexible Friday As the name suggests, this is an interesting approach to education where Fridays are set aside for students. This is the day when students share and discuss problems they are facing in a particular subject or subjects. So instead of teaching different subjects, teachers take up math on one Friday and then science on another Friday. This concept is very helpful for students as most students are facing problems in one or more subjects.
There are many more approaches to modern education that are being tried in different parts of the world. The approach that works best according to the requirements of the students is the one that should be chosen by educators to make learning easy for students.
